Open Position: Store Manager

 

Full-Time | Start date negotiable | Based primarily in Paddington

HANDS is a lifestyle and gift store dedicated to curating the best in design, from local and international makers, artists and independent brands.

Founded in 2022, we are a locally-owned and independent concept store for quality homewares, playful accessories and meaningful gifts with a growing community of customers who care about quality, creativity and craft.

We’re now looking for an experienced Store Manager to lead our Paddington and Newtown sales team.

The Role

We are looking for someone who can confidently manage the day-to-day operations of a retail store, with a strong sense of visual style, leadership, attention to detail and organisation. You’ll work closely with a team of casuals and help evolve the store as we grow.

We’re looking for someone who cares deeply about the details from how a display is styled, to how stock is organised, to how a team communicates and works together.


Responsibilities

Sales & Store Performance

  • Lead daily operations and drive store performance
  • Monitor sales and KPIs, and share regular reports and improvement ideas with HQ
  • Lead the team on the floor to deliver great customer experience
  • Handle customer issues with professionalism

Team Development

  • Oversee floor staff, ensuring the team is well-trained and accountable
  • Create weekly rosters and daily task lists for accountability
  • Recruit, train, and onboard new team members
  • Provide regular feedback, coaching, and performance support
  • Support hiring by running interviews and organising trials

Visual Merchandising

  • Responsible for the store’s look and feel. Ensuring it is visually cohesive and regularly refreshed.
  • Lead floor moves, product displays, and seasonal campaigns
  • Collaborate with marketing to share in-store highlights

Stock & Inventory Management

  • Receive, process and replenish new stock
  • Maintain inventory accuracy and stock transfers
  • Manage online orders and flag low-stock items

Requirements

  • 2+ years of retail management experience
  • Confident leadership style with clear communication skills
  • Able to coach, give feedback and hold people accountable
  • Strong sense of layout, design, and store presentation
  • Calm under pressure, highly organised, and systems-minded
  • Experience with Shopify or other POS/back-of-house systems is a plus
