Open Position: Sales Assistant
Hands is a growing lifestyle gift and homewares store in Newtown and Paddington. If you love carefully-curated design and playful home decor and accessories, we’d love to hear from you. We are hiring for a part-time/full-time sales assistant.
At Hands you will have the opportunity to uncover customers’ needs and share products from makers, artists and independent brands. You’ll be the person who guides customers — advising, selling, and sharing your own passionate interest in our products.
You will perform other roles within the store too, whether it’s maintaining the store or visual merchandising. You should be comfortable performing back-to-back services on our busiest days providing customer service and driving sales while being able to also have an eye for detail when managing product information and invoices.

Essential to your success will be:
- Previous customer service experience is essential, preferably previous retail experience, but hospitality experience is also welcome.
- Must be able to speak English fluently
- You are a positive and enthusiastic individual with a passion for people.
- You have basic computer skills and proficient in Excel.
- You have agility to learn about and sell products and brands with an interest in design, lifestyle and homewares.
- The ability to communicate with warmth, energy and sincerity and be invigorated by constant personal interaction. You're able to converse as freely and comfortably with small groups as with individual customers.
- The flexibility to juggle multiple tasks with a 'can-do' attitude.
- From busy store times to having an eye for detail during downtime
- Positive attitude and must be willing to think on your feet, whilst managing your own work-flow with great organisational/prioritisation skills
Tasks & responsibilities include:
- Open and close of store
- Store presentation and cleanliness
- Management of stock
- Visual merchandising and product display
- Serving customers including the processing of store sales and online orders
